August 2021 Touch of Hope Scholarship Winners Announced!
Thank you to all who submitted applications this past month. After many hours of reading and deliberation, we’re thrilled to announce the winners of our August 2021 Touch of Hope.
Daneille Calhoun (Left)
Daneille is the mother of two boys with a variety of learning disabilities and emotional/social needs. When COVID-19 broke out in the Spring of 2020, she decided she would homeschool her kids the following year because the school system wasn't able to support their individualized needs and the experience was impacting their mental health severely. Daneille is a food photographer by trade and when all the restaurants shut down, so did her business. It's been a long, slow, grueling journey back to normalcy and her family isn't even close. Homeschooling has proven to help her kids well but Daneille is need of a tool to help them regulate. She believes TouchPoints would reinforce everything they've been learning and feeling to the next level, and we're so happy to be able to gift her a set! We hope the devices will help along their journey.
Jessica & Skylar Levi (Middle)
Jessica has applied for her son Skylar. Skylar is an incredible young man that suffers from Autism Spectrum Disorder, Chron's disease and severe anxiety. At his best, he lights up a room and reminds everyone we are just here to spread love. The difficult days he's barely out of bed. Frustrated, isolated, and worrying about what will become of the world. Jessica believes TouchPoints will help Skylar with his difficulties and help her stay more grounded and focused to support him best. We're honored to be able to gift them a set.
Autumn Gonzalez (Right)
Autumn is a newly independently licensed counselor seeking tools and interventions to supplement her current practice with clients. She believes TouchPoints will aid her in assisting the populations she serves, including individuals, families, and groups, with mental health disorders and co-occurring substance use disorders. We are happy to be able to gift her a set and hope they not only develop and expand her skills as a practitioner, but also continue to build the counseling community and strengthen the community as a whole.
