TouchPoints™ and PTSD

TouchPoints™ are based on a pre-established, effective component of PTSD therapy that neuropsychologist Dr. Amy Serin wanted to give consumers access to outside of the doctor's office.

Did you know that you don’t have to experience accidental trauma (e.g., a near death car accident or natural disaster) to get PTSD?

In fact, interpersonal trauma such as being emotionally abused, assaulted, or even finding out your spouse cheated on you can cause PTSD. Symptoms often include flashbacks and avoidance, in conjunction with physiological reactions like hyperawareness, increased heart rate, difficulty sleeping, and more. When not managed in a healthy way, PTSD can lead to an increased risk of addiction. Even more, PTSD sufferers may be more likely to succumb to addictions when caused by interpersonal trauma (Berenz et al. 2016*). In managing PTSD symptoms healthily, The World Health Organization recommends trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy or EMDR therapy versus prescription drugs.

Sufferers also should be given access to real-time solutions to calm the anxiety response outside of their clinical appointments. We suggest adding TouchPoints™ to a comprehensive treatment plan as a consumer product adjunct to treatment. Our users with PTSD use TouchPoints™ to manage panic attacks, prevent angry outbursts, to reduce unhealthy cravings, and to help them go to sleep or return to sleep if they wake in the nighttime.

Most importantly, know that PTSD is a treatable condition and does not have to be lifelong with the right treatment.

Here's how it works: two TouchPoints™ devices can be worn on your wrists, held, or clipped to clothing. TouchPoints™ uses Bi-Lateral Alternating Stimulation Tactile (BLAST) technology transferring alternating vibrations to alter the body’s Fight, Flight or Freeze (F3) response to stress and anxiety and to restore homeostatic nervous system functioning, allowing you to think clearly and experience calm.
